About Dropfile

A temporary path between two browsers.

Dropfile is built for the moment when a file needs to reach someone else without first becoming a permanent cloud upload.

1

Why Dropfile exists

Traditional file hosts ask the sender to upload a complete copy, wait for processing, and trust a storage provider to keep it until deletion. Dropfile takes a different approach: the sender keeps the original file and their browser sends it only while a live share is open.

2

What the service does

Dropfile creates an expiring link, checks the downloader with Cloudflare Turnstile and a password, then coordinates a WebRTC connection between participating browsers. Small coordination records help peers find each other; the selected file bytes are not placed in Dropfile's storage bucket.

3

What it does not promise

Dropfile is not a backup service, permanent archive, guaranteed delivery network, or anonymity product. Transfers depend on compatible browsers, available disk space, network policies, upload speed, and every required browser remaining online.

4

The principles behind it

The product is designed around short-lived access, visible choices, minimal recipient friction, and honest limitations.

  • No recipient account is required.
  • Senders choose one-person or multi-download sharing.
  • New downloads stop after the chosen availability window.
  • Illegal and abusive sharing is prohibited.
